Disregarding miscegenation issues, there are still lots of issues regarding non-procreative sex, whether that's birth control, abortion or homosexuality. Introducing a species barrier also brings up shades of bestiality; which is probably why inter-species couples in mainstream science fiction are always genetically compatable lumpy-headed humans.
