People seem to either like or loath The Fifth Element, but the alien opera singer’s performance scene alone was enough to win me over. Lavish visuals and entertaining performances from Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, and Gary Oldman make this movie worth watching.

Fifth Element must be one of the worst science fiction movies. I don’t recall THIS scene, but it looks interesting. How about Close Encounters, Star Wars, Deja Vu, Back To The Future, Terminator, The Matrix, Alien, Predator, … ?

While I agree with our first two choices – both The Thing and Ghostbusters are excellent movies in entirely different ways – we part company on The Fifth Element. It’s one of the very few films I’ve ever walked out of, through sheer boredom and a suspicion my eyeballs were intending to leave without me. I’ve been forced to watch it since and it hasn’t improved. Utterly vacuous. Looking forward to number 2 though!
@Hornek, I assume the movies you mention are not on Hulu.

I love the Fifth Element! You have to take it for what it is: a sci-fi film that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s funny, silly and awesome! It’s the only movie with Chris Tucker that I can actually stand to watch.

This movie is great! It’s one of my favorites. It’s colorful and fun and creative. I don’t understand how it could put anyone to sleep. Scientifically some parts are so totally outrageous it’s more of a fantasy, but that’s part of the fun -no worse than ghostbusters.

The 5th Element is a favorite of mine…great fun to watch…but there’s practically nothing ’science’ about it. I call this sort of thing ‘future fantasy’…

The 5th element is not a sci-fi movie, in my opinion. It is an action movie set in the future. Granted, it has some sci fi, elements, but genres frequently overlap. The more prominent genre, is action.
That being said, I find it a great popcorn flick.

I’ve been watching Star Trek since I was 6 years old and love science fiction.
