The 5th element is not a sci-fi movie, in my opinion. It is an action movie set in the future. Granted, it has some sci fi, elements, but genres frequently overlap. The more prominent genre, is action.

That being said, I find it a great popcorn flick.

The 5th Element is a favorite of mine...great fun to watch...but there's practically nothing 'science' about it. I call this sort of thing 'future fantasy'...

This movie is great! It's one of my favorites. It's colorful and fun and creative. I don't understand how it could put anyone to sleep. Scientifically some parts are so totally outrageous it's more of a fantasy, but that's part of the fun -no worse than ghostbusters.

I love the Fifth Element! You have to take it for what it is: a sci-fi film that doesn't take itself too seriously. It's funny, silly and awesome! It's the only movie with Chris Tucker that I can actually stand to watch.

While I agree with our first two choices - both The Thing and Ghostbusters are excellent movies in entirely different ways - we part company on The Fifth Element. It's one of the very few films I've ever walked out of, through sheer boredom and a suspicion my eyeballs were intending to leave without me. I've been forced to watch it since and it hasn't improved. Utterly vacuous. Looking forward to number 2 though!

@Hornek, I assume the movies you mention are not on Hulu.

Fifth Element must be one of the worst science fiction movies. I don't recall THIS scene, but it looks interesting. How about Close Encounters, Star Wars, Deja Vu, Back To The Future, Terminator, The Matrix, Alien, Predator, ... ?
