[...] While there are some extremely articulate discussions out there regarding Battlestar Galactica and gender (io9 has a good piece on it), there seems to be less focus on how BSG deals with race and ethnicity. Those interested in the issue would be happy to know that the UN actually held a BSG retrospective earlier this year, where the delegates were divided according to the Quorum of Twelve rather than earthly nations. A good account can be found on the website of Discover Magazine. [...]

Did everyone like my COMIC CON joke? I got a bigger laugh than Whoopi did all night. haha

I was mistakenly identified as a high schooler, but my name is Eric and I am a UN Employee very into the BSG universe. It was the issues discussed by the panel that hooked me in for 85 +plus hours.

I may or may not have gotten the rank right of Adama (admiral/commander) but having only started watching this 3 months ago, excuse me if his rank did not change several times I can't keep track. I was nervous under the hot lights, needed a sip of water, and barely got my question out in front of 300 people. I think the discussion about AIRLOCK becoming a verb and being a crime in (thanks madame president) and of itself speaks volume to the seriousness of capital punishment in the BSG universe.

Enjoy my question at 1 hour and 8 minutes in. Mary and Edward James along with the panel gave a 10 minute response. EJO speaks on his military decision impeding on the civilian democracy and how wrong it was but that he had to do it. EJO was even the topic of abortion brougt up even though my initial question was about capital punishment. WOW!!! What an experience. I am a proud UN employee and thanks BSG for stopping by my job and letting me ask about what's right and wrong in BSG.

Thanks again!!!

Thanks Tristam for the link -- for those interested, Olmos's first quote above starts at the 34:10 mark, and his second at 1:55:53.
