Gallery | Cosmic Valentines | I (heart) the Milky Way

Photographer Julien Girard took this picture of the Milky Way looming over the Paranal observatory in Chile, home of the Very Large Telescope. During the 25 second exposure, he stepped into the field of view and used a small flashlight to express his love of astrophotography.
